Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 1988:
65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot
"I have drunk two bottles of the 1988 Léoville Las Cases this year, and both showed brilliantly, offering up deep aromas of cassis, cigar wrapper and sweet soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and velvety palate that has shed its youthful austerity to offer real charm and plenitude. Lively and penetrating, it surpasses the 1989 in quality." - Robert Parkers Wine Advocate
Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 1995:
67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc.
"Medium garnet colored with a touch of brick, it needs a fair bit of swirling to unlock the intense notes of baked plums, dried mulberries and boysenberry preserves with hints of black truffles, Chinese five spice, unsmoked cigars and dusty soil, plus wafts of beef drippings and cast-iron pan. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers good weight and generous fruit, supported by plush tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with loads of earth, sautéed herbs and mineral-inspired flavors." - Robert Parkers Wine Advocate
Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 1998:
76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc.
"Deep garnet colored with a touch of brick, it delivers pronounced, beautifully pure crème de cassis, blackberry preserves and prunes scents with an undercurrent of cigar box, licorice, pencil lead and hoisin, plus a touch of espresso. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has impressive richness and depth, coating the mouth with velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy. Still very youthful, this wine is in that sweet spot where it has considerable evolution and yet bags of fruit. Drink it now and for the next 20 years+." - Robert Parkers Wine Advocate
Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 2001:
69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc.
"Medium to deep garnet colored with a touch of brick, it charges out of the glass sporting energetic notes of kirsch, blackberry preserves and blackcurrant pastilles with underlying scents of star anise, cumin seed, potpourri, oolong tea and tobacco leaf plus a waft of incense. The medium-bodied, exquisitely elegant palate explodes with a myriad of exotic spice, floral and dried berries notes, framed by soft tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and with impeccable poise and sophistication." - Robert Parkers Wine Advocate
Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 2003:
70.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17.2% Merlot, 12.6% Cabernet Franc.
"One of the successes of the vintage, the 2003 Léoville Las Cases becomes more and more reminiscent of the 1982 as it ages. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, petroleum jelly and vanilla pod, it's medium to full-bodied, with a broad, fleshy profile and a concentrated core of fruit framed by ripe, velvety tannins. It's undeniably high pH in profile, but not to excess." - Robert Parkers Wine Advocate
Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 2008:
78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc.
"Another underrated vintage for this estate, the 2008 Léoville Las Cases is a vibrant, youthfully primary wine that's aging at a slower pace than the 2009. Unfurling to reveal aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with subtle hints of pencil shavings and nicely integrated new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, taut and layered, with tangy acids, ripe tannins and a long, penetrating finish. Displaying compelling purity and energy, it's a serious Las Cases that will richly reward the patient but which is still some way away from its drinking window." - Robert Parkers Wine Advocate
