- Gerstl
"Representing a more restrictive selection of dried botrytized berries than the corresponding gold capsule offering, Loosen's 2011 Erdener Pralat Riesling Auslese long gold capsule sets my nose hairs standing to attention with its prickle of radish, musk, lemon oil, nettle and smoldering campfire. On a viscous palate, these sharp, high-toned, biting and piquant elements inflect glazed pineapple and orange liqueur mingled with tart fresh lemon. The finish here is as yet decidedly sweet-sour as well as smarting and cutting in intensity. No question the entire effect is impressive, and I could envision these vinous smelling salts remaining potent as well as rich through 2030 if not beyond. Whether harmony or a more subtle and productive level of tension will be achieved one can only learn by taking the plunge and cellaring some, since I doubt that this wine will have evolved very significantly before the turn of the next decade." - David Schildknecht (206, The Wine Advocate)
