"73% Syrah, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Grenache Noir, 4% Cinsault, 1% Viognier. Gosh this wine has gone up in price…! And there are 1,742 barrels of it too. Deep healthy crimson. Well blended. Rather drier and less luscious than I remember it, which is probably a good thing. Just a little tart on the end but it is impressively persistent. This should not disappoint. I wonder whether Marc Kent has ever staged a vertical to show how this ages?" - Jancis Robinson
"The 2014 Chocolate Block Franschhoek will be the last vintage whose designation is Western Cape, as they can source sufficient fruit from Swartland. A blend of 73% Syrah, 12% Grenache, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cinsault and 1% Viognier, it has a more reserved bouquet compared to recent vintages, with tertiary/clayey scents infusing the red berried fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, quite saline on the entry with a dash of bell pepper on the finish." - Neal Martin (Interim - November 2015, The Wine Advocate)
